Medeco Key Captive Deadbolt: Converts from Single to Double! Combines the best features of a single and double cylinder deadbolt in one. The thumbturn can be unlocked from the lock and removed, turning the single sided lock into a double sided lock. When an occupant wants to lock the door from the inside, the thumbturn is inserted into the inside cylinder and the bolt is thrown. At that point the key is held captive in the cylinder and cannot be removed. Now the lock is a single sided lock.This lock is best for doors with windows, or if there is a window right next to the door, allowing an intruder to break the glass, reach through and unlock the door. Caution: the double cylinder function should only be used when the building is unoccupied. Always check local building codes.
